Software with 32-band equaliser to enhance music experience

Bangalore , Sept. 25

Audiophiles need no longer adjust the volume after every song - software that automatically adjusts the playback of all songs to the same decibel level is now available.

Bangalore-based Epigon Media Technologies has launched SpeakerMagic, a plug-in for Windows Media Player (the application that plays songs and videos on your PC).

SpeakerMagic offers a 32-band equaliser, compared to the 5-band ones offered in the market currently. This digital filtering looks at the song playback in different frequency bands and corrects each so even the high frequency signals are reproduced. Hence the listener can enjoy clear music, with none of the tones muffled.

"It will offer listeners a new music experience with the same speakers," said Mr R J Venkatramanan, Chief Product and Business Development Officer, Epigon. Another feature of the software is that it increases the speaker life by ensuring it does not suffer from saturation.

company is in talks with an amplifier manufacturer to integrate this software and is looking to offer it to assembled PC makers, software vendors, OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) for mobiles and iPod-like devices as well as speaker makers. The firm is also planning to develop an embedded application for smart phones and television sets.

The software is available on the company's Web site for a free 30-day trial. It has a small footprint of 700 kb, runs on Windows XP operating system, Intel Pentium/AMD processor based PC and Windows Media Player version 9.
