Human Resources After code writers, Google turns to wordmasters V. Rishi Kumar
Hyderabad , Sept .26 Google continues to innovate in India, this time around hunting for writing talent. Google India's latest initiative, Wordmasters, is one such effort. Mr Roy Gilbert, Head of Online Sales and Operations, Google India, told Business Line: "Google Wordmasters is the first of its kind creative writing contest and demonstrates the value Google places on recognising and rewarding talent across all skill sets." This contest follows a similar initiative of Google called CodeJam, where the accent was on identifying people with excellent coding skills. Its latest contest enables participants to meet members of the Google India team and explore its unique work environment. The contest is designed such that participants compete and qualify for the final positions and the winners get invited to a one-day tour of the Google office, Mr Gilbert said. So why would Google India be doing this? "India is a base for extraordinary talent and the challenge is to spot and harness the talent pool. This initiative is aimed at identifying people with excellent writing skills. We do not immediately see them as job prospects." Google has four offices in India at Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi and Mumbai.
