Thiruvananthapuram , Nov. 3

Air Arabia, the Sharjah-based budget airline, expects to start operations to Ahmedabad by March next year.

The airline, which now operates flights to five Indian cities, will start daily flights on the Sharjah-Thiruvananthapuram sector on Sunday.

It has also sought permission from the Government of India to operate flights to several other cities in India, said Mr Rohit Ramachandran, Regional Manager-India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Air Arabia. Indian cities to which the airline has sought permission to operate include Kozhikode, Mangalore, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Tiruchi, he added.

Holiday packages

The airline is also close to launching `Air Arabia Holidays', a specially developed selection of holiday packages to tourist destinations across Asia, he said. Kerala is one of the destinations identified for inclusion in Air Arabia Holidays, he added.

Visa facilities

Besides regular ticketing services, the airline's new office in Thiruvananthapuram will also offer visa assistance facilities to passengers travelling to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This service will be available only to those travelling on Air Arabia and will be "attractively priced", Mr Ramachandran said.

By using this service, passengers will be able to obtain electronic visas to the UAE. The airline, which will sponsor each visa, will carry out a rigorous verification process before a visa is issued, he explained.
