Accenture has launched a technology lab focussed on systems integration, software engineering research and development here.

Accenture's Chief Technology Officer, Mr Don Rippert, and the Nasscom President, Mr Kiran Karnik, dedicated the new lab at a ceremony held on Wednesday.

Also present were Mr Lyle Ginsburg, Global Managing Director, Accenture Technology Labs, and Ms Lin Chase, Director, Accenture Technology Labs India, said a company press release.

The company has chosen Bangalore as the fourth location for Accenture Technology Labs in order to have an innovation team co-located with its largest delivery teams. The goal of the India Lab will be to enable businesses to reduce the cost and improve the quality of technology solution delivery.

Thrust on research

The Bangalore lab, which will have a team of some 100 R&D engineers, will have access to up to 2,000 of the software development projects across Accenture.

The technology lab will focus on R&D in areas of service oriented and distributed software architectures, collaborative technologies and processes, automated quality management and software development. It will also focus on R&D in data quality management and data services, testing theory and practice for software and systems.

Accenture has more than 23,000 employees (as of August 31, 2006) in India, including significant professionals at its delivery centres in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune and Gurgaon serving more than 275 Accenture clients.

"Innovation will be the strongest tool for a company's survival in a highly competitive world," said Mr Karnik. "I am delighted to note Accenture's further commitment to India through the launch of this technology lab. This recognises the quality of India's human resource base, and will add great value to the Indian IT sector, particularly from the point of view of India emerging as an R&D hub," he added.
