New Delhi Jan. 24 HCL Infosystems Ltd on Wednesday reported a profit-after-tax up 19 per cent at Rs 76 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2006 as against Rs 63.77 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

The company posted consolidated revenue of Rs 2,968.9 crore during the quarter ended as against Rs 2,807.1 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal, registering an increase of 5.7 per cent.

While the revenue from the computer systems business increased by 17 per cent at Rs 652.8 crore as against Rs 557 crore in the quarter last year, revenue from the telecommunication and office automation business rose by 2.9 per cent at Rs 2,309.5 crore as against Rs 2,243.7 crore in the corresponding quarter previous year

"During the quarter, the company started a manufacturing facility at Uttaranchal with a capacity up to one million PCs. At present, it is manufacturing 2,00,000 PCs.

The company would be establishing 100 digital lifestyle outlets by the end of the year from the current 29," said Mr Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman and CEO, HCL Infosystems.

HCL also plans to set up its training and service support centres in 10 locations in the country in Mumbai and Chandigarh.

In the latest quarter, the company launched PCs in the beanstalk range targeted at the gaming and home segment.

In the overall PC market, which includes both desktops and notebooks, as per the IDC report as on November 2006, HCL stood at the second position with a market share of 12 per cent in terms of unit shipments.
