Hyderabad Feb. 9 HCL Technologies Ltd is set to embark on global expansion that would see them setting up centres in Poland and China later during the year.

Alongside, the company is expanding its facilities within the major cities it is currently located in and is scouting for more centres particularly Tier II cities.

The Corporate Vice-President, HCL Technologies, Mr Rajiv Swarup, told Business Line that while the Poland centre will be commissioned soon, the Chinese centre is likely by the year-end. Both of them would serve as near shore centres.

"As a group, we now have about 41,000 employees and we believe that this number would swell past the 1 lakh mark by 2010. Last fiscal, HCL Technologies registered faster than the industry growth and expects more than 30 per cent growth this year. The headcount will go past 54,000-55,000 mark," he said.

Referring to HCL plans for Hyderabad, Mr Swarup said they were negotiating with the State Government for a 100-acre site to set up a dedicated campus in a special economic zone. While refraining from stating when this would be finalised, he said that the process to identify site is now underway.

On pursuit of larger integrated outsourcing deals, he said that the market has matured to offer such services. This meant increased opportunities for large deals. Alongside, the company continues to scout for strategic acquisitions in select verticals.

As a group, the combined HCL turnover is about $3.7 billion, and of this, $1.1 billion is from HCL Technologies and the rest from HCL Infosystems. Asked when they expect to hit the $2-billion mark, Mr Swarup said the first billion took few years but the second would be much faster.

CENTRE FOR MICROSOFT

HCL Technologies on Friday announced the opening up of a dedicated centre in Hyderabad for Microsoft. This centre is aimed at offering migration and project services to customers worldwide on new Microsoft products and technologies.

This Microsoft Vendor Offshore Centre with about 200 people would be ramped up to about 500 people by the end of the year. Its focus is to accelerate the execution and delivery of integrated services in application development, quality assurance, product engineering and infrastructure support.

The Vice-President and Managing Director of Microsoft (R&D) India, Mr Srini Koppolu, said "the spirit of innovation is inherent in the two organisations and has been the key driver for mutual growth. The multi-site development initiative will synergise these efforts for world class products."
