French Open live on ESPN STAR Sports

Our Bureau

New Delhi May 26 ESPN STAR Sports will be telecasting the French Open 2007 live. The exclusive telecast from Roland Garros, Paris, starts on Sunday and will showcase the event for the next two weeks. According to Mr R.C. Venkateish, ESPN Software India, the channel's inventory is already sold out.

The Grand Slam title will see Rafael Nadal fighting for his third consecutive French Open win to replicate a feat only achieved by the legendary Björn Borg before him. The doubles-defending champion Nadal, had remained unbeaten on clay for a record 81 consecutive matches till Roger Federer beat him in the finals of the Hamburg Open last week.

The French Open is just as important for World No 1 Federer who has yet to win the title. If Federer gets to lift the cup, he would have claimed all the four Grand Slams of the year, a feat last achieved in 1969 by Rod Laver.

In the women's draw Belgian star Justin Henin is seeded number 1, followed by S. Kuznetsova and 19-year-old D. Safina. Henin will be hoping to win her fourth French Open title. However, with Serena Williams making a come back after three years, and with Maria Sharapova, Martina Hingis and Amelie Mauresmo hoping to win the title, the Open should be exciting. The quarterfinals for both men and women will be aired from 9.30 p.m. onwards on June 5.
