New Delhi, July 10 Software association Nasscom today announced a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) for the rollout of the Assessment of Competence (NAC) initiative in the North-East.

With this, Nasscom aims to conduct NAC tests for 20,000 students across eight States in the region — Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim — between September and January.

“This will enable us to further the goal of identifying talent from the Indian hinterland and providing them with job opportunities in the high-growth BPO industry. This will also showcase and unleash the human resource potential of the North-East, and help maintain India’s edge in the offshoring industry with balanced and continued supply of world class human power from all regions of the country,” Nasscom President, Mr Kiran Karnik, said.

NAC was launched as an industry standard assessment and certification program to ensure the transformation of a “trainable” workforce into an “employable workforce”, hence creating a robust and continuous pipeline of talent for the BPO sector.

According to Nasscom, “The target audience is final-year students who will be venturing into the job market after a year’s time. The intent behind assessing these students is to identify the level of talent available in various parts of India, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, and to provide feedback to them about areas of further improvement which will make them employable.”
