Hardware Info-Tech - Outlook Industry & Economy - SSI Cisco sees huge scope for SMB products
Our Bureau Coimbatore, Aug. 1 Cisco Systems is all set to enhance the product capability of its ‘Smart Business Communication Systems for the Small and Medium Business (SMB) units’. “This is part of our SMB strategy for India. We plan to enhance the capability of this product within the next 6 to 12 months,” Mr Pramodh Menon, Senior Vice-President (Commercial), Cisco India, told Business Line. The company started to build products for the SMBs only in the last 4 years. Having rolled out a couple of products, Cisco realised that not only was the business potential huge, but the customers in this space did not have the time to deal with complexity. According to Access Markets International Partners 2006 study, there is an estimated 7.6 million SMBs in India and these are set to increase their IT spend by 24 per cent in 2007 to about $8 billion to upgrade their sever and networking technology. The company plans to increase the coverage and make the product available in newer markets through its channel partners. The company currently claims to have a market share of 40 to 50 per cent (for SMBs), and beyond 70 per cent in the networking space. With the enhancement of the product capability of the Smart Business Communication System and by taking the ‘Network on Wheels’ solution to the customers doorstep, the company is aiming to increase the market share to 60-plus per cent over the next 12 to 24 months. Cisco is planning to introduce the product to the textile units in this region by offering customised business solution. To enable the purchase of Cisco technologies, the company is offering the ‘Easy Lease Programme,’ a financing option.
