Calcutta Telephones hopes to have 1.75 lakh customers for its IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) services by the end of the current fiscal. Calcutta Telephones' IPTV and video-on-demand services were commercially launched here today by Mr R. Bandyopadhyay, Additional Secretary in the Union Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. IPTV service has already been launched in Pune, Mumbai and New Delhi. It is stated to be a TV connection that has the capacity to transmit all broadcast channels, movies-on-demand, customers' live requests, etc, through existing telephone lines in the form of IP packets to and from customer TV to the content server. FEATURES OFFERED IPTV provides for TV, Internet and the telephone to work simultaneously. With IPTV, customers can store any broadcast and view it at a time convenient to them. It also provides for video-on-demand, video conferencing, personalised advertisements and greetings, DVD quality picture and sound, online training and video classes, etc. The service will be available for Rs 250 per month. Extra money would have to be paid for video-on-demand depending upon the video category chosen.
