Chennai, Oct 22

Malaysia Airlines will start operating three more flights between the India-Kuala Lumpur sector this November onwards to take the total number of flights operating from Indian gateways to 30 a week.

This is due to 20 per cent increase in passenger traffic on the airline, said Mr Devinder Singh Bindra, Marketing Manager, South Asia, Malaysia Airlines, without disclosing the actual numbers.

Two morning flights will be added to the existing seven night flights operating from Chennai to Kuala Lumpur.

A fourth flight is to be introduced between Bangalore and Kuala Lumpur.

When asked if there were plans to launch flights out of other cities in India in the near future, Mr Bindra said no.

Besides Chennai and Bangalore, the airline operates flights out of New Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad. South India contributes about 40 per cent to the airline’s Indian revenues translating to about 6 per cent of global revenues (about RM 6.78 million as on June 2007).

Malaysia Airlines has also launched special fares for travellers.

Business class travellers booking tickets on or before November 15, can avail themselves of an 80 per cent discount on every second ticket they buy to Malaysia and Singapore.

The airline is also offering special fares to those travelling by the two new flights out of Chennai, a press release said.
