Cool seawaters smother Bay system

Vinson Kurian

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 29 Sunday’s depression over southwest Bay of Bengal let off some steam after wading into cooler coastal waters and lay straddled across sea and land over west-central and adjoining southwest Bay, north coastal Tamil Nadu and south coastal Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

The anchor over land will cut off a major portion of the moisture feed into the well-marked ‘low’ even as the tail wagging in the seawater is capable of sloshing some rain in the neighbourhood.

WIDESPREAD RAINFALL

Widespread rainfall with scattered heavy to very heavy falls is likely over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Fairly widespread rainfall is also likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, north coastal Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Squally winds speed reaching 45-55 kmph are likely along and off Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coast.
