New Delhi, Nov. 1 India’s fifth-largest software exporter HCL Technologies on Thursday said it would invest Rs 2,750 crore in the next five years for three technology hubs in the country including one at Noida with a capacity for 15,000 professionals.

The Noida technology hub, which entails an investment of Rs 1,000 crore over a five-year period, aims to become a hub of knowledge sharing, fermentation of ideas and incubation and development of Intellectual Property (IP).

The 46-acre verdant facility with two million square feet of space for 15,000 additional employees would focus on core technologies in home entertainment, media, publishing and content distribution. It is expected to generate revenue of over $one billion annually.

More centres likely

“The idea behind setting up these hubs is to move from a manpower-based pricing to a value-based or output-based pricing. We are planning more such centres. The second centre will come up in Bangalore by the end of next year and will focus on financial services, while the third one in Chennai would look at life sciences,” Mr Vineet Nayar, CEO of HCL Technologies, said.

While Rs 1,000 crore of investment would be chanellised towards the Chennai hub, about Rs 750 crore is earmarked for the Bangalore hub.

“We will also be extending such technology hubs beyond large cities to the Tier-II cities of Nagpur, Madurai and Lucknow, thus truly taking technology where the talent is,” Mr Shiv Nadar, Founder of HCL Technologies, said.

In addition, the company as part of its Global Delivery Model is also looking to strengthen its presence in global markets. “Poland will be a new facility for us and we expect to launch it next month,” Mr Nayar said.

The HCL technology hubs are being built with a vision to create a melting pot where the best minds of India can invent technologies to dominate global competition.

“We would have beta sites in these hubs where we would work with our partners. Our employees would get access to new technology of our partners and we would test it for them,” he said.
