Cabinet nod for shipyard project in East Midnapore

Kolkata, Dec. 27 The West Bengal Cabinet on Wednesday approved a shipyard project that would be set up in joint venture in East Midnapore district at an estimated investment of Rs 2,000 crore.

Auto industrial park

The Cabinet also approved the setting up of an integrated auto industrial park at Guptamanipur in West Midnapore district at an estimated investment of Rs 250 crore.

The Cabinet has also decided to acquire 250 acres of land in Murshidabad district for a unit of the 9th Engineering Regiment that is proposed to be set up by the Defence Ministry.

Request for the land had earlier been made by the Defence Ministry to the state government.

The Chief Secretary of West Bengal, Mr Amit Kiran Deb, told newspersons at Writers’ Building here that 500 acres would be acquired under the Mahisadal and Sutahata police stations of East Midnapore district for a shipyard project that would be set up jointly by Bengal Shipyard Ltd, Apeejay Surrendra Group and Bharti Shipyard.

Rehabilitation package

Mr Deb said the State Government would offer a comprehensive rehabilitation package for the people whose land would be acquired for the project.
