New Delhi, May 20 Eros International, the London listed Indian filmed entertainment studio, has announced a partnership with Lionsgate. The joint venture announced in Cannes on Tuesday, will allow Eros to distribute the latter’s content both in original and dubbed version across formats in South Asia.

“The joint venture is designed to combine the respective strengths of the two partners by allowing Lionsgate to monetise its valuable library and new films within South Asia using the established distribution network and infrastructure of Eros International,” said the company. In addition, Lionsgate, a leading filmed entertainment studio involved in the production and distribution of motion pictures, television programming, home entertainment, family entertainment, video-on-demand and digitally delivered content, will acquire North American home entertainment distribution rights to 20 select titles (including that of Eklavya and Gandhi My Father) from Eros.

The venture will also explore the production of Indian formats and remakes based on Lionsgate and third-party film catalogues and create crossover films that will tap into India’s booming local language market as well as wider audiences outside of India.

The announcement was made at the Cannes Film Festival by Mr Kishore Lulla, Chairman and CEO, Eros International, and Mr Jon Feltheimer, Co-Chairman and CEO, Lionsgate. According to Mr Lulla, aggregation and distribution of western content, particularly format and remake rights custom-tailored to Indian consumers, will give Eros a distinct competitive advantage in the South Asian marketplace.
