New Delhi, June 10

Yahoo India on Tuesday unveiled a `Yahoo India Local’, a site offering local information pertaining to business listings, maps and directions, events and movies, amongst others. Yahoo India Local would allow users to access relevant local information across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai, to start with.

“Users can access listing from a wide range of categories such as restaurants, pubs, shopping malls, hospitals, schools, tailors, banks, health and fitness and even 24 hour pharmacies,” Mr Gopal Krishna, Head of Audience, Yahoo India said.

Currently, the local businesses across various categories can get listed free of cost on the site. Asked about how the company would monetise its model, Mr Sridhar Ranganathan, Business Head, Local Maps, Yahoo India said, “We will definitely be looking at advertisements. Also, the format could lead to other models that are currently prevalent including paid listings, premium listings, sponsored search and so on. However, things are still under discussion.”

Users can post reviews, leave footprints, mark businesses on the map, add listings or events, on Yahoo India Local. The company has a team in place that would work on data verification aspects. –
