Govt to issue IPTV guidelines

New Delhi, Sept 4

After getting the Cabinet’s approval, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is to issue guidelines for Internet Protocol Television (IPTV). The new guidelines will come along with the amendment to downlinking rules, allowing broadcasters to share their content with telecom players too. The Ministry is expected to put up the new guidelines soon. IPTV is an interactive digital television service delivered over an Internet connection. It allows for more viewing f reedom and greater interactivity. Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications and BSNL will benefit. Internet service providers with net worth of more than Rs 100 crore will also be able to offer the services.—
