Telecommunications Marketing - Strategy RIM keen on launching products for Indian market

Mumbai, Sept. 18 Research in Motion (RIM), makers of the BlackBerry handset, will be looking at manufacturing and logistics operations out of India and bring out tailor-made products for the users here, Mr Jim Balsillie, Co-Chief Executive Officer of the company, said. “We have met with the policymakers about the same,” said Mr Balsillie speaking at a news conference here on Wednesday. India is a strategic market for RIM, he said. RIM has launched the ‘BlackBerry Bold’ for the GSM customers of Reliance Communications, Vodafone and Airtel. The smartphone will be available in select stores of both Vodafone and Airtel by end-September and in Reliance Communications by end-October. According to a statement by the company, the smartphone, priced at Rs 34,990, is the first BlackBerry instrument to support high speed HSDPA networks around the world. It also comes with integrated GPS, enterprise grade Wi-Fi, and colour LCD screen. It also has many multimedia capabilities, including media player for music, video and photographs, and a two mega pixel camera with recording.
