New Delhi, June 29 The Department of Telecom (DoT) has rejected Bharti Airtel’s request to audit accounts for 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 instead of 2006-2007. The DoT has taken a view that since the telecom regulator had given its report on Bharti’s revenue reporting for 2006-2008, the audit should be done for the two years. Bharti Airtel had written to the DoT asking it to audit 2008-09 instead of 2006-07. The DoT has ordered a special audit of Bharti’s accounts to check whet her the company had violated revenue reporting norms. The move follows observations by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India that there was an increase in Bharti’s long-distance revenue, which was not in line with the volume of traffic on the company’s network. TRAI had observed that large integrated players may be routing revenues to under-service categories with lower licence fee, to save on paying annual revenue share to the Government. The DoT has since ordered a special audit of all large players including Reliance Communications, Tata Teleservices and Vodafone. — Our Bureau More Stories on : Telecommunications | Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd | Auditing
