Idea launches GSM services in Assam

Kolkata, Nov. 23

Idea Cellular, an Aditya Birla Group Company, announced on Monday the launch of its GSM network in Assam which, with a population of 32 million, has a low mobile-tele density of 22 per cent, according to a press release. The services will be available in 13 districts – Barpeta, Bongaigaon,Cachar, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sibsagar, Sonitpur and Tinsukia. By March 2010, the network will double to 500 cell sites in 19 distri cts covering 56 major towns and 1,400 villages of the State. IDEA will also set up a network of 450 cell sites in the North East region by March 2010.
