IA, Alliance Air to raise fares

Our Bureau

New Delhi , June 16

INDIAN Airlines and its subsidiary Alliance Air, are to increase their domestic rupee fares by 10 per cent from June 21 this year.

In a statement, the airline has said that the sharp rise in the prices of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) has forced IA to revise its fares.

The increase will also be applicable on some of the promotional fares, including the lower advance purchase fares, more popularly called `Apex' as well as on the recently launched `Positioning Flight Fare,' the statement said.

The statement said that the revised fares shall be effective on all tickets being issued on or after June 21 this year. While the hike will not affect the confirmed tickets issued on or before June 20 this year, open-dated or wait-listed tickets presented for travel on or after June 21 would be accepted only after the collection of the difference in fares. Furthermore, with the latest revision, the insurance charge of Rs 250 per ticket has also been merged with the fare component.

With the latest fare revision, a passenger travelling in economy class on the Delhi-Bangalore sector on or after June 21 will have to pay Rs 10,430, up from Rs 9,500 earlier, while a passenger on the Delhi-Thiruvananthapuram sector will be charged Rs 14,265, up from Rs 12,985 earlier.

Similarly, a passenger booking an economy class ticket 21 days before travelling will be charged Rs 5,025, up from Rs 4,585 charged earlier, for a flight on the Delhi-Bangalore sector.

The two private sector airlines, Jet Airways and Air Sahara have already announced a similar hike in fares.
