Govt/States Tribals continue stir alleging harassment after Salboni blast MIDNAPORE (WB): Armed tribals, including women, squatted on dug up roads for the second day on Monday in the Maoist stronghold of Lalgarh, cutting off the area from the rest of the state to protest the alleged harassment of people by police after the Nov 2 landmine blast at Salboni. The agitated tribals had dug up roads, erected road blocks and snapped water supply to the fields at various places in Lalgarh area. They sat on the roads at Dahijuri and Cherua blocking the road-link with Midnapore Sadar and Jhargram. An all-party meeting, called by the district administration yesterday, failed to break the deadlock after a CPI-M zonal committee member alleged that workers of opposition parties indulged in Maoist activities clandestinely, district administration sourc es said. This triggered a walk-out by the Trinamool Congress and the Jharkhand Party (Aditya). The 'Bharat Jakat Majhi Marwa Juan Ganta', a tribal body, is spearheading the agitation and not any political party, the sources said. Juan Ganta general secretary Prabir Murmu has demanded that the district police chief do 'sit-ups' and policemen of Lalgarh led by the officer-in-charge tender an “unconditional apology” from atop a stage at Doluipur crossing in front of the local people , particularly women on allegedly faced police excesses. District magistrate N S Nigam said the administration had forwarded the matter to the state government and “would take action accordingly”. - PTI
