State Agriculture Ministers and department officials have gathered here to discuss the agenda for the World Agriculture Congress scheduled to be held in November next year.

James B. Bolger, Chairman of the World Agriculture Forum and former Prime Minister of New Zealand, chaired the meeting to take into account the opinions expressed by representatives from various States.

The ministers and agriculture officials listed out the challenges they were facing on the farm front. They also talked about the problems with regard to post-harvest, processing and marketing.

“We have asked the Forum to include subjects such as water management and strengthening of cooperative societies,” said Kanna Lakshminarayana, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Agriculture.

Bolger and other officials of the Forum had met the Minister and other top officials of the State on Friday evening to discuss the arrangements and the probable subjects to be included in the Forum’s agenda.

“There seems to be a consensus on including topics such as value addition in agri products in rural areas, strengthening of extension (farm advisory) services. But this is only a preparatory meeting. We will discuss these issues further before finalising the agenda,” a senior official said on the proceedings.
