Promotions & Offers BPCL `Speed' draws more sporting enthusiasts Our Bureau

Mumbai , March 30 IN a bid to boost its brand image among motor enthusiast, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) sponsored the Speed Rub 2004 - a quarter mile drag race, which attracted over 10,000 motor sporting enthusiasts from across the country on Sunday. The event, based on the popular concept in international drag racing, was organised by Hungama Events and Autocar India. The participants had to accelerate as fast as possible from a still position over a distance of a quarter mile, the company release stated. Motor sport lovers present at the Speed Run 2004 event included industrialist Mr Gautam Raj Singhania, who ranked first in two foreign car categories (2000 cc and 2001-3000 cc), where he rode his Lotus Elise and Honda S 2000 respectively. He finished the quarter mile run in both the categories in less than a minute, the release stated. Besides the cars the biking fraternity turned up in full force. Some of the bikes included Yamaha V-Max, Honda X4, Honda CBR 600, the event was carried out to keep up with the personality of the Speed brand, which is all about letting loose and getting the adrenaline pumping the exhilaration that follows such an experience, the release said. The Chairman & Managing Director of BPCL, Mr S. Behuria, gave away the prizes to the winners.
