`Mr & Mrs Tobacco,'

Ramesh Sharma

Four days after the Central Government banned tobacco advertisements, the Heart Care Foundation of India and the Delhi Government on Wednesday launched an advertisement blitz about the ill-effects of smoking. A caricature made up of cigarettes and other tobacco-related products, `Mr & Mrs Tobacco,' will be taken around the city for nearly a month, concluding on World Anti-Tobacco Day on May 31. In the ad campaign, Mr Tobacco is shown as suffering from oral cancer due to chain smoking. Mrs Tobacco has a heart ailment from passive smoking.

"The time has come for tobacco and its products to be enlisted as drugs and sold by a chemist on production of an essentiality certificate by an appropriate authority," said the Heart Care Foundation Executive Vice-Chairman, Dr K.K. Aggarwal (in pic with model Sonalika Sahay), at the launch in the Capital.
