Hyderabad , Sept. 24

KEEPING in mind the increasing number of road accidents across the State, the Andhra Pradesh Government is going to develop core network of roads with high density of vehicular traffic. The project cost is put at Rs 1,500 crore.

Funded by the World Bank, the project was aimed at reducing pressure on the roads in order to reduce the number of accidents, the Minister for Roads and Buildings, Mr Jakkampudi Rammohana Rao, said.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he said the Government would spend Rs 2,800 crore in the next three years to improve rural roads.

A separate arm would be created to implement the projects.

The Government was also planning to lay an outer ring road around the twin cities. "We have sent proposals to the Centre," the Minister said.

The proposals comprised both four-lane and six-lane roads.

On the Chief Minister's residence, the Minister said the building would be ready by the year-end. The Rs 3.2-crore project comprised Rs 1.18-crore camp office.

"Unlike in other States, we do not have a permanent residence for the Chief Minister. We have decided to take up the project keeping in mind the need for such permanent residence for the Chief Minister," he said.
