Outlook Industry & Economy - Education KGISL taps online scoring services market L.N. Revathy
Coimbatore , Feb. 20 THE city-based KG Information Systems Pvt Ltd's (KGISL) foray into online education space is expected to provide great opportunity for those with a good command of the English language. "This (online education) initiative is neither for the domestic educational institutes nor is it aimed at giving instructions online. We are into providing scoring services online for the educational institutions in Japan," Mr Ashok Bakthavatsalam, Director, KGISL, told Business Line. The company started to provide online scoring services for essays written in English by students in Japan's middle and high schools. It has tied up with over 75,000 schools in the last one year. According to Mr Ashok, most non-English speaking countries were outsourcing the job of evaluating English essays. "Indians proficiency over the English language is definitely to our advantage. We started with 6,000 schools a year back. The numbers have swelled since." "Though the job involves assessment of essays, the scoring norms are not ambiguous, he said and added that it was a remote processing service, a subset of business process outsourcing. When asked how KGISL managed to establish this connection with the Japanese schools, Mr Ashok said the company's leadership position in the medical transcription space made this entry possible. "Our partners encountered capacity crisis with their vendors in Australia. So they decided to test the market here. All that they seek is an assurance on quality and capacity. We have proved that we have both," he said. Even while stating this, he conceded that the challenge was in building a strong and efficient team for doing this work. The company is now strengthening its team. "We are looking for people with the right attitude. Freelancers and retired English teachers would fit the profile," he said.
