Over 1,200 manufacturing cos registered in June

THERE seems to be a lot of interest in the manufacturing sector of late. The manufacturing sector witnessed 1,295 new companies being registered during June this year.

Manufacturing was followed by finance, insurance, real estate and business services, with 1,208 new companies getting registered under the Companies Act, according to an official release.

Wholesale, retail trade, and the hospitality sector saw 894 new registrations. Under other industrial classifications, the companies registered were 572 in the construction sector, 211 in community, social and personal services, and 183 in the transport, storage and communication sector.

Seventy-five new companies were registered in the agriculture and allied activities and another 42 for mining and quarrying activities. In all, 4,494 companies were registered in June this year as compared to 3,011 in June 2004. The number of companies limited by shares was 4,480. The highest number of companies (limited by shares) registered during the month was in Delhi (1,180), followed by Maharashtra (866). West Bengal (497), Tamil Nadu (407), Andhra Pradesh (319), Karnataka (232) and Gujarat (185) also reported comparatively a large number of companies registered during the month.

The seven States put together accounted for nearly 82 per cent of the total number of companies registered during the month. The number of companies limited by shares, which ceased functioning during June 2005, was 237.

They either went into liquidation or their names were struck off under Section 560 of the Companies Act. Out of them, 12 were public limited and 225 private limited companies. Their number was 184 in Delhi, 35 in Tamil Nadu, seven in Rajasthan, four in Assam, two each in Nagaland and Pondicherry and one each in Meghalaya, Karnataka and West Bengal.
