Hardware Xilinx develops 24 IP cores in India Our Bureau
WILLEM P.ROELANDTS, President, CEO and chairman of Xilinx
Hyderabad , March 1 Xilinx Inc, a supplier of programmable chips, said that its teams based in India have developed about 24 IP (intellectual property) cores in the areas of automotive, high-speed connectivity and consumer electronics. Given the success the company has achieved in India through a strategic partnership with CMC Ltd, Xilinx now expects to expand and consolidate its R&D operations based in Hyderabad. The President and Chairman of Xilinx, Mr Wim Roelandts, said "by investing early in India to incorporate it into our global R&D efforts, we have built a competitive advantage in utilising the local engineering of talent to create IP for customers worldwide." All the 24 India-designed IP cores have been verified and optimised for use in Xilinx programmable silicon platforms and are being offered to a customer base of 7,500 companies and more than 2,00,000 design engineers. The company has established four centres of excellence in Hyderabad covering automotive, consumer electronics, and expects to add some more, a few of them would be based only in India. Referring to the company automotive solutions, Mr Roelandts said onboard car telematics has turned out to be a big business opportunity, wherein just like a home entertainment system, people want connectivity between one device and another. The effort is to converge various applications on board a car covering entertainment, decision making, geographical position systems, and also make them function seamlessly as if they were one equipment. One of the interesting aspect of this solution is to improve the drivability in the car.
