`Cognizant Coimbatore fastest growing centre'

L.N. Revathy

Coimbatore , Dec. 24

For Cognizant, its Coimbatore facility has been its fastest growing development centre even in the first year of operation. The centre, according to Mr R. Chandrasekaran, President and Managing Director, Cognizant is witnessing explosive growth.

He told Business Line that the Centre here has outperformed its original plans of ramping up 400 professionals in the first year to reach the 1,200-mark within that period. (The facility was established in August 2005.)

The centre focuses on four industry clusters that the company specialises in — manufacturing, insurance, healthcare and information, media and entertainment.

Mr Chandrasekaran said that the city historically has been a strong sourcing base for Cognizant. `We have been recruiting over 10 per cent of our annual fresher intake from engineering campuses in and around Coimbatore and have a good feel of operating in this region. We have plans of expanding our presence in Coimbatore with additional leased space and a fully owned techno-complex in an SEZ notified zone," he said.

The facility was recently assessed at the highest level of process maturity — Maturity Level 5 of the CMMi model against the latest version 1.2 released by Carnegie Mellon University in August 2006.
