Bangalore Jan. 24 Cricket not reaching you on your TV at home? In 2008, it won't matter. You could stream the live match onto your mobile using WiMAX. This is expected to be one of the top applications of WiMAX in the country, alongside e-mail and Voice over IP.

"People will jump at the chance to download their favourite programme onto their mobiles", said Mr Lil Mohan, MD, Emerging Markets, Broadband Wireless, Intel Technology India, speaking at the sidelines of the MAIT Wireless World 2007 summit in the city. Intel plays an advisory role in the implementation of WiMAX across various States in the country.

"In 2007, video streams will be completely off the scale with the convergence of just enough broadband with fast enough PCs. Broadband media will undergo a transformation. High definition video will go mainstream in the next year or two. We will soon be able to manipulate quality video and share it easily," said Mr Maloney.

Quoting a study, he said that people are now ready to spend more on Internet than on TV, or books.
