New Delhi March 16 Bharti Enterprises on Friday announced apex-level strategic reorganisation of structure, with Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal relinquishing operational responsibility in Bharti Airtel. Speaking to Business Line, Mr Sunil Mittal said that the rejig was aimed at giving a clear-cut responsibility to the managers at Bharti Enterprise, apart from giving him more time to work on strategic interests. "The move will relieve me of day-to-day decision-making so that I can focus on strategic things like acquisitions, arranging for funds and grooming leadership." He added: "The corporate office has been given a clear line of responsibility, unlike the current system where you would find me, my brother Rajan and Group CFO Akhil everywhere. "The lead directors have been given specific businesses for which they will be totally responsible. These directors are like the Cabinet for the Group." He also said: "My focus, in terms of time spent, will continue to be on telecom since it is the largest business in the Group." According to him, Bharti would be aggressively scouting for acquisitions outside the country and be on the lookout for opportunities in the airport sector. The new structure has Mr Mittal as Chairman and Group CEO of Bharti Enterprises - the strategic architect for all businesses. He will be assisted by four Group Lead Directors - Mr Rakesh Bharti Mittal (Vice-Chairman), Mr Akhil Gupta and Mr Rajan Bharti Mittal (Managing Directors) and Mr Badri Agarwal (Director). In addition, there will be nine Group Directors, who have been closely associated with the Mittals over the years. Mr Rajan Mittal has been taken off the telecom business and will now be Group Lead Director of Retail, Wholesale and New Projects. Mr Akhil Gupta will relinquish his position as Group CFO and take charge as Group Lead Director of Telecom and Chairman of the Group Finance and Audit Council. The new structure will be effective from April 1.
"The new organisational structure is designed for Bharti Enterprises to focus on overall strategic direction, leadership development and leveraging synergies, taking another significant step towards a conglomerate of the future," said Mr Sunil Mittal. Bharti has also institutionalised three group level governing bodies - the Bharti Management Board, the Group Finance and Audit Council and the Bharti Management Council.
