Fiscal deficit reaches 80% of target

New Delhi March 30 The Centre's fiscal deficit in April-February 2007 (eleven months) touched a level of Rs 1,21,817 crore. This represented 80 per cent of the full year's fiscal deficit target of Rs 1,52,328 crore, the Controller General of Accounts said on Friday.

The fiscal deficit was 90.5 per cent of the target a year earlier. Revenue deficit for the April-February 2007 period stood at Rs 82,411 crore, which represented 98.8 per cent of the budgeted revenue deficit target of Rs 83,436 crore for fiscal 2006-07.

As at end-February 2007, the Government has achieved 81.3 per cent of its revenue targets for 2006-07.
