Intel, Nokia brainstorm on WiMAX
Bangalore, Sept. 27
Intel, Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks have begun
to brainstorm to ensure that the upcoming WiMAX
laptops and networks of tomorrow will interoperate
smoothly. WiMAX, Wireless Interoperability for
Microwave Access, is an outdoor wireless broadband
technology, which has a range of 30 miles and a
theoretical bandwidth of 70 MBps. To ensure seamless
connectivity and roaming between networks, the devices
- laptops and tablet PCs by Nokia, which run on Intel's
silicon platform - and the telecom network equipment
have to be compatible. It is this compatibility that is being
worked on by the three behemoths. Intel's WiMAX chip
(codenamed Baxter Peak) is designed specifically for
