Where the pvt trade bought its wheat from

Harish Damodaran

New Delhi, Sept 30 Unlike the Food Corporation of India (FCI), which buys the bulk of its wheat from Punjab and Haryana, private corporates have sourced the commodity mainly from Central India.

Of the 111.04 lakh tonnes procured by FCI and State agencies in the current season, 67.57 lt and 33.46 lt have been from Punjab and Haryana, with UP (5.49 lt) and Rajasthan (3.84 lt) being the other major contributors. MP has yielded a paltry 57,000 tonnes, Bihar 8,000 tonnes, Uttarakhand 2,000 tonnes and Delhi 1,000 tonnes.
