SQL Star rejigs operations

V.Rishi Kumar

Hyderabad, Dec. 22 Technology education and services provider SQL Star International has restructured its business operations to lay thrust on two key areas of customised technology training and wireless applications.

The Chief Executive Officer of SQL Star International, Mr Raj Ganti, who operates from California, said that the restructuring would provide the company with a new focus on tech education, which has been once its main business along with IT services.

“The Indian technology sector is projected to fall short of resources with specialised skills as per studies made by Nasscom and KPMG. This is likely to be more pronounced when it comes to areas such as business process management, business intelligence and enterprise application integration,” he said.

LEARNING PLATFORM

During his visit to the company’s headquarters in India, Mr Ganti said that it has created a learning platform that has the capability to expand both retail learning and shore up the corporate houses. This platform is being launched in early 2008.

From the current eight centres, SQL is poised to expand this to 15 centres.

WIRELESS SOLUTIONS

The wireless and embedded software group at SQL Star has developed Embinux, a complete embedded Linux platform specially designed and optimised for wireless handsets, mobile phones and smart consumer electronic devices.

As part of expansion of this division, the company is setting up a centre of excellence and is in the process of partnering with original equipment manufacturers and designers, to offer wireless applications on Linux.

SQL Star, now on course to achieve a revenue of Rs 130 crore this fiscal, is set to close about $10 million through a foreign currency convertible bond issue. Of this, $5 million would be used for expanding its education business, and the rest for augmenting working capital and other businesses, Mr Ganti said.
