Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 25 The Kerala ‘State School IT Fest 2007’ will be held at Technopark Thiruvananthapuram from Saturday.

Over 500 students and teachers from schools across the State will take part in the three-day event, said Mr Anvar Sadath, Executive Director, IT@School, Project. All competitions held during the event will use only free software, he stated. The event is possibly the first time that an IT festival for students in India is being organised using only free software, he claimed.

Programmes

Events being held as part of the festival include digital painting, an IT quiz, multimedia presentation, programming competition and so on. There will also be lectures and interactive sessions on various subjects related to IT.

A highlight of the event will be a ‘CEO meet’ in which senior officials from several companies in Technopark will participate.

The students taking part in the festival have been selected through competitions conducted during IT fairs held in the State’s 38 education districts, while the teachers are those who won prizes in multimedia presentation competitions conducted by the Department of Education.

The Kerala Education Minister, Mr M. A. Baby, is scheduled to inaugurate the festival in the Park Centre of the Technopark at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
