GoM meeting on fuel prices inconclusive; may meet again today

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Jan. 17 The first meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on fuel prices, headed by the External Affairs Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, ended here today without taking any decision. Soon after the meeting, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Mr Murli Deora, said, “The meeting was inconclusive. We have discussed some proposals. We will meet again tomorrow or day after.”

Officially, the meeting remained inconclusive as some of the members of the GoM were not there. The GoM would look into the options proposed by the Petroleum Ministry including a marginal price hike on auto fuel along with duty restructuring to cushion the impact of global crude prices on oil marketing companies.
