Thiruvananthapuram, May 13 The technology business incubator at Technopark Thiruvananthapuram has won the national award for the best Technology Business Incubator in the country for the year 2007.

According to an official press note, Mr N. Radhakrishnan Nair, Chief Executive Officer of Technopark, and Mr K.C. Chandrasekharan Nair, Chief Financial Officer and Programme Manager of New Initiatives, Technopark, received the award from the former President of India Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at a function in New Delhi on Sunday.

The award has been instituted by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

“Technopark, through the technology business incubation initiatives, is creating an ecosystem and a fertile ground that promotes the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship,” the statement quotes Mr Nair as saying.

Set up in 2006, the Technopark Technology Business Incubator provides prospective technology entrepreneurs with ‘plug and play’ infrastructure and also assists them in areas such as forming a company, developing business plans, securing funding and so on. Technopark also has another business incubation facility called the Technopark Business Incubation Centre, set up in 2002.

Between them, the two incubators have incubated 71 start-ups, the press note states. Of these, 35 companies have graduated and moved into larger premises in the Technopark campus and 32 continue their operations in the incubators.
