Software Aricent tool for mobiles
Our Bureau New Delhi, May 20 The latest news, weather forecast, or stock-related information on your mobile phone may now be accessible at the click of a button. Communications software company Aricent on Tuesday announced the global availability of Celltop, a mobile client framework that is aimed at enabling the delivery of next-generation content, commerce and communication services across GSM and CDMA networks. The company is already in talks with 15-20 telecom players globally, and has also initiated discussions with tier-I Indian telecom service providers. Celltop had initially been launched on select Alltel Wireless phones in the US. The product — which is available on JAVA and BREW platforms — would support ready-to-run cells such as inbox, stocks, weather, news, call log, and ringtones and can be customised by network operators. Customers can also have access to a host of subscription-based cells including a cheap fuel locator, music downloads and streaming radio. With the two-panel interface, the customer can check his SMS in one cell, even as he downloads ring-tones or reads the weather forecast in another. “Today service providers are facing challenges like falling Average Revenue Per User, and are looking to drive data usage, improve user experience and reduce churn. The subscribers, on the other hand, are looking for better usability, reduced complexity, useful information, speed of response, and personalisation. With Celltop, a greater range of customers can now easily interact with handheld data while harnessing the data capabilities of CDMA and GSM technologies,” Mr Sanjay Dhawan, President and Chief Operating Officer of Aricent said. Celltop is similar to personalised short-cuts on the desktop of a PC, and enables users to personalise and manage content in ‘cells’. “This functionality dramatically reduces the obstacle of multiple click-throughs and allows users to reach their desired content faster than before,” he added.
