Politics C. Rangarajan nominated to Rajya Sabha K.R. Srivats New Delhi, Aug. 13 Dr C. Rangarajan, former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and erstwhile Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisor Council, has been nominated as member of the Rajya Sabha. His nomination to the Upper House would ensure continuity in his active public life stretching from his stint in the central bank as Deputy Governor for an unbroken spell of almost a decade till 1991. Then he served as Member of the Planning Commission from August 1991 to December 1992. After this, Dr Rangarajan rose to be the Governor of RBI for five years (1992-97), when India was in the first flush of major economic liberalisation, including financial sector reforms. Between November 1997 and January 2003, Dr Rangarajan was the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. After demitting that office, he took charge as the Chairman of the Twelfth Finance Commission. Asked about his nomination to the Rajya Sabha being a prelude to his getting inducted into the Union Cabinet, Dr Rangarajan politely parried a response to the query.
