Sierra Atlantic bets on New Oracle Economy

K .V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad, Nov. 21 With Oracle Corporation pursuing aggressive acquisition strategy, Sierra Atlantic, an enterprise integration solutions company, sees a huge opportunity to become a leading player in what it called ‘New Oracle Economy’.

“As Oracle consolidates multiple software platforms, the role of system integrators has become critical in the changing the landscape of services,” Mr Raju Reddy, Chief Executive Officer of Sierra Atlantic, told Business Line.

“The opportunity represented by Oracle’s consolidation strategy and the continued growth in its core segments of database, middleware and applications is what we describe as the New Oracle Economy,” he said.

“Over the last four years, Oracle acquired about 50 companies and is now generating license revenues of over $1 billion a quarter. This creates an opportunity for companies like us that specialises in deep implementation and integration skills for the Oracle applications,” he said.

Asked whether the reduction of budgets for IT spending would impact, he said it, in fact, the solutions added value to the customers. “Customers will emphasise on extracting the full value of their applications which are already installed or not fully implemented. This often requires integration of installed modules or applications to deliver fully functional and complex business processes. We are good at doing this,” he pointed out.

EggNest programme

Mr Raju Reddy said that the company has decided to launch a programme called ‘EggNest’ to tap human resources from rural areas. “We will work with the colleges in districts and create a conducive nest to help the students acquire necessary skills to get jobs in the IT industry.

“We will organise specially designed courses in select colleges to bridge gaps in communication and other professional skills to make them industry-ready,” he said.

The company would use the Sierra Atlantic staff, who hailed from the rural areas as catalysts in the programme.
