Nearly 90 per cent of the Indian small and medium businesses (SMBs) are not adequately prepared for disaster recovery processes.

According to a study, by the Symantec Corp, ‘2012 SMB Disaster Preparedness Survey’, reasons for not having a disaster recovery plan include lack of resources (42 percent), computer systems not critical to business (37 percent), budget constraints (21 percent) and business priority (16 percent).

“Incidentally, 21 per cent of the survey respondents revealed that they were not aware about the need to be prepared for disaster recovery options,” Mr Vijay Mhaskar, vice president, Information Management Group, Symantec India, said.

The survey carried out by the company – an anti-virus maker known for Norton – included 100 SMBs who have employee strength of 249 or less.
