Co-operatives Co-op banks to get Rs 5 cr for promotional activities Our Bureau
Mumbai , Dec. 15 NABARD has decided to provide grant assistance of Rs 5 crore to co-operative banks out of its co-operative development fund for publicity measures towards doubling their agriculture credit in three years. The assistance will range between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh per bank depending on its size and nature of business. The funds can be used to organise borrower meets, bring out publicity materials such as banners, handbills and posters in local languages, advertisement through print and electronic media. The grant can also be used for publicity measures for canvassing for prompt repayment of loans for ensuring their further recycling. The scheme will be in operation up to December 31. Co-operative banks have to issue farm loans to the extent of Rs 39,000 crore during 2004-05, in keeping with the target set by the Finance Minister for commercial banks to double the disbursement.
