Outlook Variety - Cinema Sahara Group bullish on films Our Bureau
New Delhi , July 21 THE Sahara Group is bullish on the movie business and plans to invest about Rs 300 crore in producing 40 movies during the next 12-15 months. According to Mr Sandeep Bhargava, Chief Operating Officer, Sahara One Motion Pictures, "So far we have had 12 releases, of which four have been hits, including Page 3, Phir Milenge and Sarrkar. We have also bagged about five national awards." The company is open to producing films with budgets ranging from Rs 2-25 crore. So far, however, it is in the process of making medium budget films. The company is hoping to break even and turn profitable by the end of this fiscal. It is also planning to set up an international business division shortly that will look at selling home video and telecast rights abroad. It is also targeting its films at various segments. For instance, it is looking at the 14-17 years age bracket as well as producing mature love stories too. Regional cinema is also in its radar screen and two Bengali films are in the pipeline.
