ZEE Telugu has dubbed Sholay, the Hindi blockbuster of the seventies, into Telugu and it is being telecast on Sunday at 3.30 p.m.

Mr Ajay Kumar, Business Head, Zee South Channels, said at a press meet here that "it is a big challenge. We had to ensure that it would be well received by the Telugu audience. For instance, Gabbar Singh speaks with a Telangana accent."

He said the channel was sure of good response to the film. "We are organising a viewers' contest called Sholay Dhamaka. Viewers will have to answers questions relating to the film during the telecast. Cash prizes (Rs 2.5 lakh in all) will be given to the winners." He said road shows were being organised in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam to promote the telecast of the film. A look-alike of Gabbar Singh would be trotting the streets of these cities on a horse.

Mr Rajendra Naidu, senior manager, said, "The significance of the dubbed version is that the lip sync the audience will witness is quite amazing. A lot of effort has gone into selecting voices for all the key characters."

Mr Krishna Sunder, senior producer, has dubbed the film, with appropriate dialogues and songs to match the original.
