Ironport plans India foray

Preethi J.

Bangalore , Dec. 10

Ironport, a $110-million security firm, is planning a threat operations centre for India-specific security research next year.

The company will foray into India with its two solutions — e-mail anti-spam tool C Series and a Web security tool, S Series. Both are targeted at enterprise customers.

The company has 50 enterprise customers in India. Ironport plans to extend its product to the SME segment by end of the first quarter next year. A subsidiary has been set up in Mumbai with 10 employees. Two more offices are planned in Bangalore and Delhi by March .

"Users in India still have not been impacted much, as Internet penetration is still low. However, it would be better to take proactive measures, instead of reactive," said Mr Patrick Peterson, V-P, Technology, Ironport Systems.

If your computer starts displaying too many pop-ups, you may be infected by adware. Key stroke logging and phishing may also accompany such adware, which could mean the criminal could get your passwords, bank account numbers and credit card information without your realisation, he said.

To guard against such a crime, load your desktop with an ad-aware or malware removal software or a comprehensive security suite.

Bad news follows — The top four Indian ISPs are in the top 25 bot networks in the world, according to Mr Ambarish Deshpande, Regional Director, India and SAARC.
