Emerson Network eyes data centre market

V. Rishi Kumar

Offers consultancy, design and implementation

New avenues
Indian enterprises are gradually shifting from diesel gensets to UPS systems.
In southern States, there is big growth in technology investments.

Hyderabad March 19 Emerson Network Power India, part of the $20.1 billion Emerson, is eyeing the data centre market with its range of technology, network power systems and engineering solutions in India.

The Corporate Champion, Channel, Emerson Network, Mr Prashant L. Mehar, told Business Line that data centres in IT, banking and financial services markets, telecom and other verticals are growing at a rapid pace offering scope to provide solutions in power management, air-conditioning systems and racks that host servers, and transient voltage surge protection systems.

Mr Mehar said that Emerson touches companies offering them consultancy, design and implementation of data centre or a network in an organisation. These cover uninterrupted power supply systems (UPS) and the highly specialised cooling systems.

India is witness to a sea change with enterprises gradually shifting from diesel gensets to UPS systems, which call for expert guidance. The growth within the IT sector itself is significant. While the existing players continue to expand and also upgrade replacing old systems, in southern States there is big growth when it comes to technology investments.

"Emerson has evolved distinct approaches for large enterprises, and small and medium sized businesses (SMBs). Apart from direct sales and channel model, it is supported by Ingram Micro. Twelve network partners being chosen would complement them. These expert network partners would particularly be useful for SMBs," he said.

Growing market

Given the country's current power scenario, it would take a while to have a truly trouble-free power supply system. Therefore, the Rs 2,000-crore UPS market is growing at over 27 to 30 per cent per annum. Significantly, with the costs of diesel going up and the overall maintenance issues to boot, most of the enterprises are now shifting to UPS systems, he said.

"We support large establishments like Bharti data centre in telecom space, ICICI Bank in banking space and the coverage extends to oil and gas, and other areas too as all of them are getting technology-intensive," he said.

Emerson supports more than 40 per cent of what goes into a data centre. As a part of backward integration, the company added racks required in data centres through acquisition of Knurr AG of Germany.
