Airlines States - Tamil Nadu Chennai airport keen on receiving A-380 T E Raja Simhan
Chennai April 27 Chennai airport is desirous of receiving the A-380, the double-decker super jumbo aircraft, when it arrives in India next month. "We are ready," Mr Dinesh Kumar, Airport Director, Chennai Airport, told Business Line on Friday. The arrival of the super jumbo, which is by far the biggest aeroplane to take to the skies, is considered to be an event of sorts and as such is eagerly coveted by several airports. While the aircraft is flown around the world by its manufacturer, Airbus Industrie, as a showpiece of its technological prowess, airports are keen to use the visit of the flying giant to demonstrate their own handling efficiency. Chennai airport is keen not to be left out of the race. "We have been preparing for the A-380 arrival since December 2005," Mr Kumar said. A bay (No. 35) has been allotted to accommodate the plane. Mr Kumar stressed that Chennai airport, the third largest in the country, is no poorer in landing aids, runway length and taxiway than New Delhi or Mumbai where the A-380 is expected to arrive.
