Tourism Industry & Economy - Taxation Tourism Ministry to discuss tax issues Our Bureau
New Delhi May 29 The Ministry of Tourism will discuss the multiplicity of taxes on tourism with the Finance Ministry to create an enabling situation for the sector to achieve a higher trajectory of growth. Other issues that will be discussed would be high incidence of tax and variance of rates from State to State and need for higher budgetary allocation, said Mr Christy Fernandez, Secretary, Tourism Ministry. While addressing the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry members recently, Mr Fernandez said that the industry should not look upon only Government sops to promote themselves. "There should be a conscious effort to re-engineer tourism in India aided by out-of-box solutions leveraging synergies available,'' he said. He exhorted the industry to take immediate steps for augmenting the supply of over 2.8-lakh trained manpower required for manning the additional rooms.
